Promises To Overcomers - Revelation 2 & 3
A. An Overcomer (John 5:1-5) * Obeys God's commands * Is born of God * Has faith in Jesus Christ. * Believes Jesus is God's Son.
B. The Promises: * eat from the tree of life (REV.2:7) * the crown of life (REV. 2:10) * not hurt by the second death (REV.2:11) * some of the hidden manna (REV.2:17) * new name on a white stone (REV.2:17) * authority over the nations (REV.2:26) * the morning star (REV.2:28) * dressed in white (REV.3:5) * name in the book of life (REV.3:5) * acknowledged before God (REV.3:5) * kept from the tribulation (REV.3:10) * a pillar in the temple of God (REV.3:12) * God's name, the new jerusalem, Christ's new name written on (REV.3:12) * sit with Christ on His throne (REV.3:21)

Repentance is the Key - Revelations 2:5b
~Repent: metanoeo 'to change one's mind or purpose' ~This change of mind always involves a change for the better - a turning from sin and a turning to God. ~5 of 7 churches were told to repent: 1. Ephesus> Forsaken their 1st love, and fell from a great height. (REV.2:4-5.) 2. Perganum> Allowed pagan practices in the church and tolerated false teaching. (REV.2:14-16) 3. Thyatira> "false teaching that led to sexual immorality and eating food sacrificed to idols. (REV.2:20-23) 4. Sardis> Faith without deeds and disobedient to the Word.(REV.3:2-3) 5. Laodicea> Lukewarm and arrogant. (REV.3:16-19)
~2 Churches did not need to repent: 1. Smyrna: faithful despite poverty, persecution, and suffering (REV.2:8-10) 2. Philadelphia: good deeds, kept the word, upheld Christ, patient, obedient, persecuted (REV.3:8-10)
"Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent." (REV.3:19)

Yes, I am coming soon. -Jesus Christ in Revelation 22:7,12,20
-There will be scoffers."Where is this coming? 2 Peter 3:3-13 -Do not be surprised by the Lord's coming. Why? You have the signs! - 1 Thessalonians 5:1-4 -Jesus' disciples wanted to know what the signs of his coming were.- Matthew 24:3
TWO MAJOR SIGNS 1. Israel "the fig tree" had to be restored as a nation. Fulfilled May 14, 1948. Matthew 24:32,33, Hosea 9:10, Joel 1:7,12,2:22 2. Jerusalem had to be in Israel's possession- Six Day War June 12, 1976. Zechariah 12:3,10, and 13:1, Daniel 9:26, Revelation 11:1-2
>All Scripture, including Revelation, is God breathed. 2 Timothy 3:16,17 > God is a God of love and wrath. (Nahum 1:2,7) > This Book is the Revelation of Jesus Christ -revealing events that will happen when Jesus returns. (Rev. 1:1) > Revelation promises the reader and hearer a blessing. Claim it! (Rev. 1:3) > Theme: Christ is coming! (Rev. 1:7) > Do you live and wait for the blessed hope, Christ's return? (Titus 2:11-14) > John testifies to 3 things(Rev.1:2) 1. Everything that he saw. 2. To the word of God. 3. The testimony of Jesus Christ. > Greetings from the triune God: -God the Father (Rev.1:4,8) -The Holy Spirit (Rev.1:4) -Jesus Christ the Son (Rev.1:5-7) > The Glorified Christ: -Like the son of man (Rev.1:13) -Majestic appearance (Rev.1:13-16) -Same title as the Father (Rev.1:17,18 -Ready to judge (Rev.1:18)
SIGNS OF NATURE *Interpret the signs of the times. Matthew 16:1-4 *Beginning of birth pains. Matthew 24:4-8, 1Thessalonians 5:3 1. Famines. Matthew 24:7;Mark 13:8; Luke 21:11 (we hear of many countries today in need of food) 2. Earthquakes. Matthew 24:7; Mark 13:8; Luke 21;11. (recent earthquakes in Haiti, China, Chile) 3. Pestilence. Luke 21:11 (H1N1 and AIDS, Insects affecting crops, different strains of viruses and bacteria) 4. Fearful events. Luke 21:11 (Gulf oil spill, Tornadoes, Wildfires, Hurricanes, Floods, Cyclones all happening worldwide) 5. Signs from Heaven. Matthew 24:9; Luke 21:11 Conclusion: Surely the Sovereign Lord does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets. (Amos 3:7)
God always gives signs before He does something of major significance.. the burning bush, the parting if the Red Sea, a star at Jesus birth, an earthquake at Jesus death... the signs before Jesus returns. ______________________________________________ SIGNS IF THE TIMES: SOCIETY
1. Interpret the signs of the times. (Matthew 16:1-4) 2. Beginning of birth pains. (Matt.24:4-8, 1 Thessalonians 5:3) 3. Don't be surprised: we have the signs. (1 Thess 5:1-4) 4. Lovers of self {humanism}. (2 Timothy 3:2) 5. Lovers of money {materialism}. (2 Timothy 3:2) 6. Lovers of pleasure {hedonism}. (2 Timothy 3:2) 7. A depraved society totally lost in sin {nihilism}. (Romans 1:20-27) 8. Just like the days of Noah. (Matthew 24: 37-39) 9. God saw how wicked man had become. (Genesis 6:5-8) 10. There is no shame for evil. (Jeremiah 6:13- 15)
